Authorities confirmed on September 12, 2025, that Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old Utah resident, is in custody for the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
The arrest came after Robinson’s father, a 27-year veteran of the Washington County Sheriff’s Department, convinced his son to turn himself in with the help of a minister.
Robinson was arrested in St. George, Utah, approximately 250 miles from Utah Valley University where Kirk was killed during a debate.
The father reportedly recognized his son from FBI images and secured a confession from Robinson.
Utah Governor Spencer Cox announced the state will pursue the death penalty for Robinson, citing the case as one of the most high-profile in Utah’s recent history.
