The Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) has officially confirmed the election of 15 new bishops, following the creation of 15 new dioceses and the filling of one vacant see.
This development is part of the church’s expansion and mission strategy to deepen its presence across Nigeria.
Communion approved the creation of 15 new dioceses, raising the total number of dioceses under the Church of Nigeria from 161 to 176.
This decision was made as part of the church’s efforts to strengthen its outreach and service to communities across the country.
The election of the new bishops took place during the Episcopal Synod held on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at the Cathedral Church of Emmanuel in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti Diocese.
The Primate of the Church of Nigeria, The Most Rev’d Dr. Henry Ndukuba, presided over the Synod and announced the elections of 15 clergymen to fill the vacant See of Irele/Ese-Odo and 14 of the newly created Sees.
