The Global Methodist Church (GMC) has reportedly surpassed 6,000 member congregations worldwide since its launch in May 2022.
This growth marks a significant shift in the Methodist world, with many churches leaving the United Methodist Church (UMC) over theological differences, particularly regarding LGBT issues.
The GMC, a theologically conservative denomination, has attracted thousands of congregations from the UMC, with many more expected to join.
According to Keith Boyette, GMC’s transitional connectional officer, the new denomination has already grown to include over 4,600 congregations, with more than 4,300 of those in the United States.
The split between the UMC and GMC is largely attributed to disagreements over LGBT inclusion, with the UMC facing pressure to adopt more progressive policies.
The GMC, on the other hand, has maintained traditional Christian views on sexuality and limited the power of bishops in the new denomination.
As the GMC continues to expand, it aims to prioritize discipleship, church planting, and evangelism, focusing on creating a “transformed soul which leads to a transformed world”.
With its growing presence in various nations and languages, the GMC is poised to make a significant impact on the Christian landscape.
