Violent protests swept through Nepal, with demonstrators setting the parliament building on fire and targeting government officials’ homes.

The unrest follows the resignation of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who stepped down amid widespread criticism over corruption and a contentious social media ban.

The government’s decision to ban 26 social media platforms, including Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram, sparked outrage among citizens.

Demonstrators are calling for an end to corrupt practices and the lifting of the social media ban, which has since been repealed

The protests are led by Gen Z, with students from colleges and universities across major cities like Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Itahari joining in.

At least 22 people have been killed, and over 300 injured in clashes between police and protesters.

The parliament building, homes of high-ranking politicians, and government offices have been vandalized or set on fire.

The UN Human Rights office has expressed concern over the use of force against protesters, urging a prompt investigation.
