A huge gathering is underway in Gokwe, Zimbabwe, where thousands of members of the Mugodhi Apostolic Faith Church (MAFC) have converged to honor their 110-year-old leader, Aaron Munodawafa.

The 10-day fasting and prayer gathering, which began on August 20, is an evidence to Munodawafa’s enduring legacy and the devotion of his followers.

Munodawafa, who became the leader of MAFC in 2019 following the death of Tadeau Mugodhi, is being celebrated for his demonstration of longevity and continued leadership despite his advanced age.

Due to his ill health, the church’s acting Bishop, Phillip Musuva, will lead the gathering, which has drawn approximately 7,000 congregants, including many school-going children.

The MAFC was formed in 1947, following a split from the Kruger Apostolic Faith Mission. The church has a rich history, with its founding bishop, Elijah Mugodhi, playing a pivotal role in shaping its doctrine and practices. Munodawafa’s leadership is a continuation of this legacy, and his 110th birthday is a testament to his enduring commitment to the church.

According to MAFC’s legal adviser, Davison Mangoma, Munodawafa remains conscious and actively involved in the church’s affairs, praying for the congregation and speaking in tongues.

“He is aware of everything transpiring within the congregation and is always praying for the sect. He is highly anointed and still doing God’s work. We are blessed as MAFC to have such a leader,” Mangoma said.

The gathering is a tribute to Munodawafa’s life and leadership, and a celebration of his contributions to the MAFC. As the church comes together to honor its beloved leader, it is clear that his legacy will continue to inspire and guide the congregation for generations to come.
